Hunting for Idaho Treasure | David Foster of 43rd State of Mind
What if there really was buried treasure somewhere in Idaho, complete with a red X marking the spot?
On this episode of The Great Idaho Show: The Heart and Mind of Idaho, Dylan Stocker sits down with David Foster, founder of 43rd State of Mind, to talk about a uniquely Idaho adventure.
David and his team actually hide treasure chests across the state containing gold, silver, Idaho star garnets, cash and other prizes. Treasure hunters get 43 clues built around Idaho history, geography, landmarks, riddles and more. Solve the clues, put boots on the ground and you might find the X.
But as David explains, the real treasure is often everything that happens along the way.
Families get off the screens and around a map. People explore parts of Idaho they have never seen. They learn local history, discover new communities, hike new country and make memories together.
We also talk about David’s love for Idaho, how 43rd State of Mind began, the adventures he has discovered while hiding treasure, respecting the places we explore, outdoor preparedness and his plans to teach practical 72-hour survival skills.
At the time of our conversation, four 43rd State of Mind treasures were still waiting to be found around Idaho.
If you love Idaho, history, treasure hunting or simply finding another reason to get off the pavement and explore the Gem State, this one is for you.
